What Are The Advantages Of Lifting With Chain Slings vs Synthetic Slings

Overhead lifting slings are typically used in combination Webbing Slings vs. Round Slings with a crane, power hoist, manual or lever hoist or other forms of lifting tools.Before selecting a sling, it is necessary to understand the application fully and to gather precise details about how the sling will be used. When choosing a sling, you need to know the weight, the centre of gravity, the number of attachment points for a balanced lift, the angle of the sling, the length, the upper and lower fittings and the ambient conditions. Communicate or collect as much relevant information as you can about the load being lifted, then determine which type of sling fits best. This will help to ensure that you choose the correct sling material and configuration for the right job.

 

The (ASME), the National Association of Chain Manufacturers (NACM) and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) advocate only use of steel alloy chains for overhead lifting. Grades 63, 80 and 100 are alloy steel chains used in the industrial industry.

 

Alloy steel contains elements that give them their unique strength, abrasion resistance, toughness and longevity. According to ASTM requirements, alloy chain slings must be capable of elongating at least 20% when overloaded to provide a visual indication for the rigger that the sling is overloaded. Once any stretch has been discovered, the chain sling must be removed from service. Synthetics do not have any such markers as standard.
